Wow, I never thought my little Related Posts plugin would be so popular. It was just a hack for a better ‘Related Posts’.
Yes I’ve jumped a few release points as well! But remember this is still beta code to me :).
Thanks to the people who tested it out for me, much appreciated :).
But out of popular demand, I’ve fixed the code. Removed bugs, might have added some, but most importantly I’ve added more features which you people may or may not want.
For the moment I’ve removed the feature to use a page as a related post. Though this fixes the bug about having a ‘page’ appear as a related post :), so I think most people might not mind.
For Old Users
Warning: If you’ve customized the CSS, please keep it somewhere safe when updating the file. You WILL destroy it if you overwrite the file.
Warning: The options are now saved under a different name so you’ll have to reapply your old options.
Don’t let these list of problems scare you if you are going to new to this plugin. It’s not a big thing, really.
New Features
- Trim the length of your title
- Limit to only showing related posts to the post’s page itself
- Easier CSS customization, by moving it the administration menu
- Made it possible to inject the php code, to customize where you want it placed. So basically like the old Related Posts Plugin
- Mixture of posts with and without excerpts. For example, first 3 posts have excerpts, remaining 2 dont. So it doesn’t look as cluttered.
Features
- Automatically inserts the ‘Related Posts’ to the bottom of your post
- No need to inject SQL
- Includes into the RSS feed
- Customize apperance via CSS
Known Bugs
- When installing, it may throw SQL errors. Though its not a big issue, and it still works. Still not working? Try a Force Install.
Future Ideas
- Show Related Posts in the sidebar using widgets
Requirements:
- None that I know off

How you can Help
To be honest, the administration front end could be better. Better choice of words, and layout. Especially the CSS section. Any advice?

Great, great improvements on the original plugin. Question - is there a way to disable related posts from showing up in the search results, similar to being able to disable them from showing up on summary/category pages?
Great job on this plugin. It was very easy to setup and works like a charm. Thanks!
The only thing it’s missing is a sort feature. I would like to see the related posts sorted by post date in desending order rather than ascending (latest first).
Thanks for the comments, I’m already working on a new improved version which cleans up the code drastically and adds a new feature which many of you won’t expect :).
Hi,
May I know what is the condition used for showing related post?
I tried force install and it show the following error:
WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'WHERE Key_name = "post_related"' at line 1]
SHOW INDEX FROM `wp_posts` WHERE Key_name = “post_related”
WordPress database error: [Duplicate key name 'post_related']
ALTER TABLE `wp_posts` ADD FULLTEXT `post_related` ( `post_name` , `post_content` )
Hi Aizzato,
I tried again and it works. Thanks for the plugin.
But due to my site is still new, so most of the post do not have related post. So is there a way to hide the Related Posts heading if there are no related post?
Hey, thank you for the plugin! I love it! So much easier to install and configure compared to other similar plugins!
Terima kasih!
Excellent plugin ! intergrated very well in my wordpress theme and hope i’ll get more page views due to this new feature added!
Wow, it’s great plug-in Aizatto! I use it for my blog, Bright Beginning! and it brings out my old posts! Thx a lot for this great plug-in.
Btw, can you advise how to tweak my blog so that your plug-in can bring better related posts? Currently sometimes it gives unrelated topic.
Thanks a lot!
Aizatto,
I know this is the worst kind of feedback - vague and without enough detail to actually be of service - but I thought I’d mention it anyway.
My site was recently on the front page of digg.com, and my hosting provider had to semi-disable it until I fixed the “problem”. The problem was too many php processes being spawned by each new visitor. Since I hadn’t done anything other than install your plugin, I tried disabling it. My hosting provider responded right away that traffic was still very high (the article was still on the digg.com front page) but the php processes had been cut down dramatically. I won’t state with any level of certainty that it was your plugin causing the problem (because I sure don’t know enough about it to make that claim) - but all I did to “fix” the problem was disable Related Posts v0.5.
If I can somehow help, by all means please feel free to contact me via the address used to post this comment. Cheers,
Ross
@Alidian the algorithm needs to be improved.
@Ross thanks for the insight, I’ll have a look at it under the “Digg effect”.
Looks like I’ll need to improve this once more
There is an improvement underway, but these scenarios need to be taken into consideration.
Much appreciated
Thanks.
I have tried 3 related links plugin and yours work best yet.
Can i mode the style of how my related links look?

Thank you so much for a hassle free easy to install plugin! I have spent half of my day trying to install another plugin, due to frustration I searched for another one and guess what…… I found yours! Absolutely superb.

Just wanted to say *thank you* for this plugin — after looking at all the options, I couldn’t find a related posts plugin that was as easy to install and customize as Aizatto’s Related Posts - and certainly none with the useful option to show an exerpt of any length. Really appreciate your work!
Hello… so I got your plugin to work very easily. I had the same problem as XiaoRouWan initially with the wordpress errors.
Now, I notice in my url when the page loads, it has a # after pigduck.com/blog/#/ for example and a /#__cap-36 while the page loads. Once it completes it goes back to the /#/. I don’t recall seeing this before.
What does the # do?
Is it because we altered my database?
Is there some way to revert to my old tables?
sorry, i have this error after activation of this plugin. how to solve this problem? thx
WordPress database error: [The used table type doesn't support FULLTEXT indexes]
SELECT ID, post_title, post_content, post_type, MATCH (post_name, post_content) AGAINST (’ ‘) AS score FROM wp_posts WHERE MATCH (post_name, post_content) AGAINST (’ ‘) AND ID != ‘3′ AND (post_status = ‘publish’) AND (post_status NOT IN (’private’, ‘page’, ’static’)) AND (post_type NOT IN (’page’))ORDER BY score DESC LIMIT 5
Even after force installation a couple of times, what I get on posts is the following error:
No related posts
Hi Aizatto,
I’ve installed the plugin and work! But the related post display in index.php and single.php. So, how to display the related entries just in single.php?
Thanks

Hello.
I love the plugin, definitely seems like it would increase relevance to the visitor.
However, I am having a small issue with the custom insertion of .. when I add it to single.php (or any other) and disable automatic insert, it fails to display anything.
I am attempting to add it above the post title - and it just stays blank. This is on a Linux host. It does work in automatic mode, but I think the greatest benefit would come from adding on top.
Thanks for any help you can offer,
Kevin
just curious: In what file is
“” inserted? Is it the single.php or main index.php?

Hi Planner. I first inserted into single.php - Then I think I tried index.
At this point, I’ve just decided to leave it automatic at the bottom, due to Adsense & SEO.
Thanks!
what a great plugin!
well i do have a problem. tried to turn off automatically insert and put in my code. It seems not working in my code:(
Hi Aizzato, I am using wp2.2 and mysql 5

Hi,
got a problem, the plugin works on automatic mode, but it can’t be called using the PHP code as you described please quickly solve this problem.
very good plugin,thanks
Hi Aizatto,
When using custom injection (by inserting the PHP code on my own), it doesnt seem to work. Automatic injection works fine, but doesnt place itself where I’d prefer.
Great plugin and look forward to hearing from you about this bug,
-Ravi
Thank you very much for this plug-in, I do not know how to find development for a long time to find you here, thank you again for selfless
WordPress database error: [The used table type doesn’t support FULLTEXT indexes]
SELECT ID, post_title, post_content, post_type, MATCH (post_name, post_content) AGAINST (’ ‘) AS score FROM wp_posts WHERE MATCH (post_name, post_content) AGAINST (’ ‘) AND ID != ‘3′ AND (post_status = ‘publish’) AND (post_status NOT IN (’private’, ‘page’, ’static’)) AND (post_type NOT IN (’page’))ORDER BY score DESC LIMIT 5
It seems manually adding the code doesn’t work at all. Only auto insert is working. Please fix this. I am using Wordpress 2.2.3.
Can anyone teach me how to exclude this plugin on certain page?
I’ve set it up so that it appear automatically but I wish not to display this plugin on 1-2 of my post. Is it possible?
Cheers!
Sha of eMenang.com
I got the same problem as some of the users inserting the code manually in the wordpress template file, namely “single.php”. (With the auto insertion disabled.)
Nothing appeared!
The plugin works with automatically insertion, though. But I’d like to control where the related posts appear, there I’m using manual insertion.
I’m using wordpress 2.2.1.
Thanks.
Sherman
i used this plugin, but i don’t know how to NOT showing related posts to the index/front page, but only in the single page. So please tell me
This plugin is top! Best related posts plugin.
Definitely a better related post plugin. Installed and work like a charm, Thanx
Add me to the chorus of users bummed that manual injection doesn’t work.
Finally got manual injection to work.
Just add “echo”, like this:
P.S. For relevant results, you need to add this to the template that outputs the content you want to query against.
Dantek, can you please upload the code in a text file since your comment is not displaying properly?
Nice Site!
I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my site or is it something in this plugin, but why doesn’t the plugin pick up the stuff written on the “excerpt” field of the post? Instead it keeps pulling the first words of the post.
I have a *very* bad habit of rambling and usually the beginning of my posts have nothing to do with the “big theme” of the post (f.ex. sometimes I begin the post with a reference to something I said earlier or a quote or even by defining some words I’m going to use later on). If the plugin would pick up the true excerpt like “Why this post is so damn cool: my views on something or other”, it would be a lot more helpful.
Is this a feature not yet implemented? Or am I just missing something? (F.ex. the field I see as “excerpt field” really isn’t for that purpose as I don’t use WP in English…)
Otherwise I’m really happy with this one, thank you so much!
Excellent plugin!!
dantek please paste the code!
Just open your wordpress database in phpMyAdmin and run the following command (cut & paste):
ALTER TABLE `wp_posts` ENGINE = MYISAMAnyone figure out a way to do manual insertion of related posts - without altering my tables in phpmyadmin?
Just a quick question. I like the plugin, but is there an easy way to add a bit of space between my post end (actually, my tags) and the top of the Related Posts section? Right now, the RP section is crammed right up against the bottom of the post and it looks bad (I have it deactivated at the moment).
Hey, this is a great tool, but I was wondering if there was a way to include the Related Posts *only* in the RSS feed and not on posts themselves. I can’t figure out how. Thoughts? (I’d beta test a variation of this for sure!)
Thanks!
ARP working fine in auto mode but in manual mode dont. “ALTER TABLE `wp_posts` ENGINE = MYISAM” trick dont resolve the problem.
Hey there, I want to use this plugin for my blog. Does it work on blogger and how? I am such a noob when it comes to things like these…please help. Thanks.
p.s. if possible email me.
I have downloaded related posts v05 and installed it on my wordpress blog. though the excerpts of the posts are showing well but title of the posts are not visible. They are presence can be confirmed by link showing (still not visible) when I hover mouse over the same.
How can I change the color of the title in related posts. This will be a great help. Please let me know as I don’t know much about css.
I can’t download your plugen. Pleas, research this qestion…
The download link is not working.
When I click it, it shows 500 Internal Server Error. Please upload it to somewhere else or fix the download link.
thanks so much
